Generally a URL of a web page or a website is usually long, and in most of the cases it is difficult to remember the URL and even difficult to share it. In such cases, URL shortening or shrinking plays a vital role.
URL Shortening is a process of converting long URLs into short ones that are easy to remember and share. The short URL that is obtained after the conversion leads to the same destination as that of the long URL. In this case, the destination remains the same whereas the URL gets changed.
Benefits of URL Shortening:
1. The shortened URLs are very short.
2. The shortened URLs are easy to remember and are easy to type and share.
3. The shortened URL provide the complete details of where, when, and how many times the URL is clicked and opened. This feature is very important to the user to know whether the URL is viewed or not.
4. The shortened URL is much useful in situations where there is a restriction in number of characters used i.e., Twitter, General Messaging Service, etc.
